BPL Plasma Celebrates International Plasma Awareness Week

October 21, 2017

Local Centers Hold Open Houses to Highlight Life-saving Therapies Made Available to People Across the Globe, and Jobs & Opportunities for Local Communities

(Austin, TX) –BPL Plasma, one of the fastest growing plasma collection companies in the United States, joined the global community to recognize International Plasma Awareness Week from October 8 – 14, 2017. During the week, our 38 centers throughout the United States recognized the contributions of our donors – ordinary people with a passion for saving and improving lives. Each center worked to raise awareness, among donors and the community, of the life-saving therapies created with plasma collected, with various activities including trivia contests, snacks, and even a chance to win a car!

The highlight of the week for our center in Little Rock, AR, came when they welcomed a plasma therapy recipient and his family to the center to discuss the positive impact plasma has had on their lives. Both the staff and the donors were quite moved to learn how their contributions have changed the life of this one person, and the lives of each and every person with whom he will encounter as he grows into a young man!

Plasma collected from donors living in the local community is the essential component in certain therapeutics for patients around the world. Plasma-based medications are used to treat serious disorders such as hemophilia and immune system deficiencies, and to treat victims of shock and burn.

According to BPL Plasma, in addition to providing the plasma used in cutting-edge pharmaceutical therapies, each of our Plasma Collection Centers employs up to 70 people and infuses an estimated $3-5 million into the local economy every year, through fees paid to donors.
